Sustainability
The REI Co-op Wonderland 6 earns a higher sustainability rating than most car camping tents, though there is still considerable room for improvement, especially at the product level. It does not contain recycled or Bluesign-approved materials, and its durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment is not PFAS free. However, the Wonderland 6 does feature solution-dyed mesh in its canopy, which reduces water and energy use during the dyeing process, making it lower-impact than conventional alternatives.
REI continues to be a leader in the sustainability realm thanks to several brand-wide initiatives. Its Re/Supply program supports gear reuse by reselling returned and used items, helping keep products out of landfills. The company is also Carbon Neutral Certified, offsetting its emissions with carbon credits, and is targeting net-zero emissions by 2050. REI publishes an annual impact report with detailed progress updates. REI also prioritizes sustainable packaging by using mostly Forest Stewardship Council-certified or post-consumer waste paper materials. That said, the brand does not offer repair services, an area where competitors like Patagonia and Arc’teryx stand out.
Below we break down in detail all of the Wonderland's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best camping tents and our review of the Wonderland.
