Sustainability
The Trailmade ranks among our highest-rated trekking poles for sustainability, though all of its sustainability attributes come from the brand level. The poles do not contain recycled materials, and REI does not offer replacement tips—if a part wears down or breaks, you’ll need to purchase an entirely new pair. However, REI prioritizes Forest Stewardship Council-certified or recycled packaging, the company is highly transparent about its greenhouse gas emissions tracking, and it publishes a thorough annual impact report. For manufacturing, REI partners with Fair Trade USA to certify and monitor its production facilities. Additionally, the brand has been Climate Neutral Certified since 2020. Overall, the Trailmade poles meet more than half of our sustainability criteria, making them one of the top choices in this category.
Below we break down in detail all of the Trailmade trekking pole's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best trekking poles and our review of the Trailmade trekking pole.
