Sustainability
The REI Co-op Siesta Hooded 20 achieves Better Trail Certified status, making it a top sustainability choice among sleeping bags. For starters, the Siesta Hooded features a PFAS-free durable water-repellent coating on its shell and lining fabrics. While the lining is not recycled, the shell incorporates 100% recycled, Bluesign-approved polyester. The synthetic insulation in the Siesta Hooded is 98% recycled, Bluesign-approved polyester, too. Finally, the fact that REI is a climate-labeled brand gives the sleeping bag a slight score boost.
At the brand level, REI continues to make measurable progress toward reducing its environmental impact. REI has earned The Climate Label from The Change Climate Project (formerly Climate Neutral), recognizing its commitment to reducing emissions and financially supporting climate solutions. The company also publishes updates on its emissions reduction progress in its annual impact report. Though it does not offer a repair service, REI operates Re/Supply, a resale platform that supports circularity by making it easier to buy and sell used gear. The brand has also phased out plastic bags in its packaging, using only paper products made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified or post-consumer waste materials.
Below we break down the Siesta Hooded 20's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best camping sleeping bags and review of the Siesta Hooded.
