Sustainability
The Hubba Hubba LT 3 is a decent choice for sustainability, landing squarely in the middle of the pack. This tent’s floor, mesh, and rainfly are made with solution-dyed fabrics, which reduce carbon emissions by 80% compared to traditional dyeing methods. However, it does not contain recycled or Bluesign-approved materials. On the upside, the Hubba Hubba’s durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment is PFAS free.
MSR hasn’t published an annual impact report since 2019, and we haven’t been able to confirm whether the company plans to release one in the future. Its parent company, Cascade Designs, tracks carbon emissions for its subsidiaries, meaning MSR’s emissions are being tracked but not by the company itself. The brand manufactures its products in the United States and Ireland, where factories adhere to strict environmental standards. MSR provides comprehensive repair services for tent poles and body materials: Warranty-covered damage is repaired for free, while older tents can be fixed for a fee. However, we couldn’t confirm whether MSR has taken steps toward increasing recycled or reduced packaging, and the brand does not offer a resale or recycling program. With a mix of pros and cons at both the brand and product level, the Hubba Hubba is merely an okay sustainability pick.
Below we break down in detail all of the Hubba Hubba LT 3's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best backpacking tents and our in-depth review of the Hubba Hubba LT 3.
