Sustainability
Updated:
Feb 24, 2026While it ranks below average for rain jacket sustainability, the Marmot Minimalist Pertex meets most of our product-level standards. Its primary 2.5-layer Pertex Shield fabric is made from 100% post-consumer recycled nylon. Additionally, the jacket features a PFAS-free waterproof membrane and durable water-repellent treatment for moisture management without toxic chemicals. However, there aren’t any Bluesign-approved materials in the Minimalist.
Marmot’s packaging is not recycled, though the company has taken a small step forward by using 70% Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper tags for its products. While Marmot has stated plans to track its greenhouse gas emissions, it has yet to set goals or publish emissions data. Its parent company, Newell Brands, produces an annual impact report, but it includes limited information about Marmot’s sustainability efforts. Additionally, Marmot does not offer resale or recycling services, and its repair services are limited to warranty-covered material defects, which do not meet Better Trail’s sustainability criteria.
Below we break down in detail all of the Minimalist Pertex's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best rain jackets and our review of the Minimalist Pertex.
