Sustainability
La Sportiva’s Ultra Raptor II Mid Leather GTX offers a decent mix of sustainability features. It includes 100% recycled polyester laces and an insole made from 5% recycled rubber and 15% production waste foam. While this isn’t the highest percentage of recycled content we’ve seen in a boot, it’s a step in the right direction. The Ultra Raptor also features a PFAS-free Gore-Tex ePE waterproof membrane and durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment. Additionally, all of La Sportiva’s leather—including that used in these boots—meets Leather Working Group (LWG) standards. However, the Ultra Raptor does not contain any Bluesign-approved materials.
At the brand level, La Sportiva’s sustainability efforts are a mix of strengths and weaknesses. The company has published a detailed annual impact report since 2016 and has been Climate Neutral Certified since 2023. Footwear is shipped in Forest Stewardship Council-certified boxes and recycled plastic poly bags. Unlike some competing brands, La Sportiva does not offer a resale or recycling program for used gear. It also does not participate in a third-party responsible manufacturing accreditation program. Overall, the Ultra Raptor is a reasonable choice for sustainability, but there are other hiking boots that score higher in this category.
Below we break down in detail all of the Ultra Raptor II Mid Leather GTX's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics.
