The Give’r Frontier ranks among the less sustainable ski mittens we’ve researched. Unfortunately, the mitten doesn't feature recycled or Bluesign-approved materials. Its leather isn't sourced from suppliers certified to Leather Working Group standards either. However, Give’r uses wax as a leather protectant instead of chemicals, making the Frontier’s exterior PFAS free. Its waterproof membrane is PFAS free too.

To reduce waste, Give’r recycles excess production materials when possible and produces recycled leather custom patches from gloves that don’t get sold. Additionally, it donates “almost perfect” gloves and mittens to people in need, which keeps gloves out of the landfill. Give’r mentioned that it had tracked its greenhouse gas emissions in the past but didn’t provide details on its current tracking methods when we asked for additional information. The company also doesn’t produce an annual impact report outlining its sustainability progress. While the brand claims that its sourcing meets or exceeds Fair Trade Certification, it doesn't meet our responsible manufacturing criteria because its suppliers are not third-party validated.

Below, we break down in detail all of the Frontier's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best ski mittens and our review of the Give'r Frontier.

The Frontier is built like a tank, with thick cowhide leather and reinforced construction that can stand up to years of abuse. The leather shell forms a rugged patina over time, and most testers found them to be among the longest-lasting mittens on the market. Maintenance is essential, but longevity is excellent.

Choosing durable outdoor gear is perhaps the most effective way to reduce environmental impact—the longer it lasts, the less it needs to be produced. Our proprietary longevity rating evaluates overall build quality based on factors such as materials, fabric denier, component durability (including zippers and toggles), real-world performance as reported by our field testers, and our experiences with the brand. Overall, we feel strongly that reducing overall consumption is a cornerstone of sustainability.
