Sustainability
The Arc’teryx Kyanite Hoody is an okay choice for sustainability, but there are lower-impact fleeces on the market. It incorporates recycled content in its polyester interior, but Arc’teryx does not specify how much of the fabric is recycled. Unfortunately, the Kyanite does not contain Bluesign-approved materials. Additionally, while Arc’teryx is a Fair Trade partner brand, the Kyanite hoody is not made in a Fair Trade Certified (FTC) facility. On the upside, Arc’teryx emphasizes that the hoody is designed to facilitate repair, helping you keep it in rotation for longer, but does not specify what design features are oriented toward repair.
At the brand level, Arc’teryx has made significant progress toward its sustainability initiatives but still has room to improve in certain areas. First, it utilizes Higg Index tools to track its greenhouse gas emissions, setting a Science Based Targets Initiative-verified goal of reducing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% and Scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030. In addition, Arc’teryx offers repair and resale services through its Rebird circularity program. It also consistently publishes a detailed annual impact report that includes information about responsible material sourcing and emissions data. The brand does not currently use reduced or recycled packaging but identifies this as a growth area moving forward.
Below we break down in detail all of the Kyanite’s sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best fleece jackets and our review of the Arc'teryx Kyanite Hoody.
