Sustainability
The Arc'teryx Atom features several notable sustainability elements, including a 100% recycled nylon ripstop lining, Bluesign-approved insulation, and a PFAS-free DWR. The latter two factors represent meaningful improvements in chemical management during the jacket's manufacturing process. Additionally, some colorways feature a solution-dyed lining, which can significantly reduce water and energy use in production (unfortunately, Arc’teryx does not specify which colors use solution-dyed fabrics).
At the brand level, Arc’teryx stands out for its investment in circularity, offering robust repair services and its ReBird program, which gives customers store credit for returning used gear to be resold or recycled. The brand also publishes a standalone sustainability report with detailed emissions data, in addition to the broader Amer Sports impact report. Packaging, however, remains a weak spot. Unlike many of its competitors, which now use recycled materials or minimize packaging altogether, Arc'teryx has yet to implement widespread improvements in this area. Lacking some product-level sustainability features, the Atom Hoody falls in the middle of the pack among synthetic jackets.
Below we break down in detail all of the Atom's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best synthetic insulated jackets and our review of the Arc'teryx Atom Hoody.
