Sustainability
Compared to other hiking boots, the Lone Peak Hiker 3 lacks key sustainability features at the product level, but brand-level initiatives help its overall rating. Unlike higher-rated boots, it does not incorporate Bluesign-approved or recycled materials. While some Altra products use Leather Working Group (LWG)-certified leather, the Lone Peak does not.
That said, Altra has made some strides in sustainability at the brand level. Its shoeboxes are made from 85% post-consumer waste, and its parent company, VF Corporation, tracks and reports on the carbon footprint and environmental impact of all its brands in an annual impact report. However, we could not confirm whether Altra’s factories are accredited by a third-party responsible manufacturing certification program. Given these factors, more sustainable hiking boot options are available, such as the Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 GTX.
Below we break down in detail all of the Lone Peak Hiker 3's sustainability attributes at the product and brand level, including links to in-depth articles on relevant topics. For more, see our guide to the best hiking boots and our review of the Altra Lone Peak Hiker 3.
